Hi and thanks for checking out the site. I'm Michael Bryant. As a key assistant location manager and a camera operator I'm no stranger to the bustling world of film and television production. I love being on set but I've found myself in an odd space relating to crews.
You see several years ago, on a feature, we had six Mikes on channel 1. It was a mess trying to communicate on the first day of shooting so the 1st AD gave us all nicknames. Because I worked for Malibu locations, I became "Malibu Mike". The name stuck and has followed me from show to show.
Growing up on a tobacco farm in Marlboro, Maryland and not on the picturesque beaches of Malibu, I've always felt a little inauthentic wearing the moniker, but people remembered the name and I seemed to get more calls for work as Malibu Mike than I ever got as Marlboro Mike. So I embraced it.
Here's the rub: While everyone remembered my name, I couldn't possibly remember everyone else's name.
I'm deeply passionate about my job and the people I work with and I wanted to find a way to make everyone on set feel the way I did when everyone, including people I had never met, called me by name. Honestly, over the years I did become Malibu and the connection and respect I feel from such a simple gesture, coming from everywhere, is real and I wanted to find a way to give everyone on set the same feeling.
That's why I created WalkieID. It's a super simple idea with tangible effects.
The feedback has been amazing. Thank you for embracing WalkieID the way you've embraced Malibu Mike.
